Shri Vithalrao Joshi Charities Trust’s, Samarth Nursing College started in the year 2001 with the blessings from Shri Digambardas Maharaj and devotion of Bhaktashreshtha Kamalakarpant Walawalkar the great disciple of Shri Digambardas Maharaj. Son of Bhaktashreshtha Kamalakarpant Walawalkar, Mr. Vikas Walawalkar is multifaceted personality with the aim of providing high quality Education and medical services to people of Konkan Region and all around.
Samarth Nursing College is a pioneer institute of Nursing education in Konkan Region, Maharashtra and is recognized by Indian Nursing Council (INC) and Maharashtra Nursing council is committed to provide promotive preventive, curative and rehabilitative services to all to achieve excellence in Nursing education, Clinical practice and Community service.
Shri. Vitthalrao Joshi Charities Trust, since last 10 years is providing humble services like health care and social welfare through its BKL Walawalkar Hospital, Diagnostic and Research centre to the needy and poor population of the Konkan region, who were previously deprived of such basic facilities. In this short span of 10 years, the Institute has climbed a remarkable height of achievements in various fields and has gained a respectable status recognized, not only in the local or national level but also at international level. The Institute have promoted many social, health care facilities and is conducting various projects like- Medical and surgical camps, Cleft lip and Cleft palate, Community health program, Malnutrition camps, ANC checkup, “ladoo” distribution for Pregnant Ladies and Malnourished children, TATA rural outreach program for cancer, etc- with services of Indian and foreign specialists from Mumbai, England, Spain, Germany.
To cater the basic, higher and special educational needs of the society, for which the students had to travel miles away, the Trust established various education projects like Primary and Secondary English medium school, Samarth Nursing School, College of Advanced studies, College of Physicians and surgeons etc. All the courses are approved by the Government and respective Authorities like Nursing Council, State board of technical education, Board of CPS, University of health science, YCM Open University etc and the institute fulfills the norms and standards laid by them.
The admissions to these courses are purely based on merit and as per the norms of affiliating authorities. The trust has its own super specialty hospital which consists of various departments like Pathology Laboratory, Blood bank, X-ray radiography, Ultra Sonography, MRI CT scan, Hemodialysis, Cath Lab, Operation theatres which are well equipped with highly advanced facilities. The institute has separate hostel and mess facilities for male and female students. The students are provided with individual guidance from skilled and qualified staff of the institute as well as from the eminent visiting faculties of the respective field. With this support and guidance the students are carrying out many social and clinical research projects successfully.
The courses are proving to be very useful for our students in building their career. Many of the passed out students of our Institute are working in reputed Institutes on respectable posts. The pass outs of above courses have great demand at national and international sectors. After completing the course the students have job opportunities in Government / Private Sectors and also helpful for self employment. The students are also provided employment in Institute’s hospital and other related projects as per the requirement. Some of the students were sponsored for advanced education at Tata Memorial hospital, Mumbai and after completing the course the students have been employed in the Institute’s hospital.

Our Institute is dedicated to provide quality services in health care, education and social welfare with convenient and smooth mechanism to make the society healthy, literate, and self sufficient and satisfied in all aspects.
The aim of conducting these courses is to upgrade the students to:
- Assume responsibilities as professional, competent clinical personnel/ technocrats at basic level in providing Preventive, Promotive, Curative and Rehabilitative services.
- Make independent decisions in acute clinical situations protect the rights of and facilitate individuals and groups in pursuit of health, functioning of the hospital, community services and conduct research studies in the areas of various clinical practices.
- They are also expected to assume the role of Leader, Teacher, Supervisor, Manager, and Entrepreneur in clinical / public health settings.
On completion of these courses the students will be able to:-
- Apply scientific principles of knowledge in providing comprehensive health services, Preventive, Promotive, Curative and Rehabilitative to the individuals and groups in hospitals and communities.
- Assess health status, identify needs, plan, implement and evaluate service for patients / clients that contribute to health of individuals, families and communities.
- Demonstrate competency in techniques based on concepts and principles from selected areas of technical, clinical, physical, and biological and behavioral sciences.
- Participate as members of health team in the Preventive, Curative and Restorative health care delivery system of the country.
- Demonstrate skills in communication and interpersonal relationship.
- Demonstrate leadership qualities and decision making abilities in various situations.
- Demonstrate skills in guiding and teaching to individuals and groups in community health settings.
- Demonstrate managerial skills in community health settings.
- Practice ethical and moral values in their personal and professional life.
- Participate in continuing education and research activities and utilize research findings in improving their skills.
- Recognize the need for continued learning for their personal and professional development.
